Pella fans won’t have to wait too long for more high school basketball following Saturday’s ice-related cancellation. The Dutch will host Fort Madison for a varsity doubleheader on Monday after freezing rain put this past weekend’s games to a halt.

The Dutch girls are up to 4-2 overall with a pair of ranked wins this past week over Keokuk and Carlisle, and will take on a Bloodhounds squad that has won four in a row since an opening loss to Ottumwa. Fort Madison is led by juniors Dayonna Davis and Hadley Wolfe and their 16 and 13 points per game respectively. Pella defeated the Bloodhounds on the road on December 9th, 2023 in their first-ever matchup.

Pella’s 1-2 boys will try to erase the tough taste of Thursday’s loss to Grand View Christian, a game in which they led by as much as 18 before watching it evaporate in the second half. A shorthanded Dutch squad fell to the Bloodhounds last year in a 55-50 game. Fort Madison comes into the matchup at 1-1 overall and is aced by Junior Nolan Guzman and his 13.5 points and 4.5 steals per game, as well as Senior Dayton Lamar and his 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.

Saturday’s JV games will also be played on Monday afternoon. Pregame coverage of the varsity doubleheader will begin on Monday at 5:15 p.m. on the KRLS2 stream and Pella Dutch Live on YouTube, with first tip scheduled for the girls game at 5:30 and the boys to follow.
