Area high school bands performed in the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association annual regional jazz contests earlier this week, with ensembles attempting to qualify for the annual State Jazz Championships in the spring.
Pella Jazz I has once again qualified for the final event after winning the Class 3A competition at the SCIBA festival delayed to this past Tuesday due to weather. Pella’s jazz band has been the best at the competition in Class 3A, winning 20 state championships — including the last four in a row, in the 46 events held among the state’s best.
