Competing at the Winterset quadrangular Thursday, the Newton girls wrestling team defeated three of their four opponents on the night. The Cardinals picked up their three victories in the quad against Central Decatur 42-12, Norwalk 48-18, and Winterset 45-12, while their lone loss of the evening came 66-15 against Carlisle. Newton girls wrestling coach Chad Garvis said the team went 3-1 on the night, despite missing four wrestlers. Three Cardinals went 4-0 in the quadrangular, as Kylee Adams at 105 pounds, Stella Cupples at 115 pounds, and Ella Machin at 170 pounds won all of their matches. Ashlyn Van Manen also won both of her matches at 190 pounds .

The Newton girls wrestling team will wrap up the 2024 portion of their schedule on Saturday at the Chariton Tournament.
