The Indianola City Council and City of Indianola staff discussed the Indianola Wellness Campus and IWC Board of Trustees at their meeting Thursday. The entire IWC Board of Trustees resigned last week after the council approved the first steps of a $29 million investment into the Summercrest Hills area, which includes athletic fields, a fieldhouse, and more, and the investment will share the parking lot and the IWC gym, which was not communicated to the board previously.
Indianola City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the council and board are working hard to try and add features to bring the Wellness Campus into a secure financial state, but the timing was tight regarding land acquisition for the new development.
“It was a last minute addition to have the use of the gym. We were trying to say that both parties were trying to work together in good faith, but we needed to spell it out a little more clearly. So it was something the developer absolutely needed and we really did try to work together but it was so time sensitive that it just didn’t work out. So I apologize personally to the IWC Board.
