The addition of an elevator at Newton High School was the focus of a Newton school board work session at the high school last week. Tim Bloom, the district’s Director of Business Services, expects another work session to be scheduled soon.
Rachelle Hines of FRK Architects and Engineers in West Des Moines met with Newton school board members and discussed the options for adding an elevator that would access all three levels of Newton high school. Bloom says each of the three options will have a similar impact on project finances.
“Basically any of those scenarios has the same cost. Wherever it would be, it’s going to be right around $500,000.”
Bloom says Newton School Board members are also talking about making parking improvements for the handicapped outside the high school.
