There will be no White Christmas in south central Iowa in 2024.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan says at least an inch of snow on the ground during the Christmas holiday qualifies — and the likelihood of having that happen has become less likely recently. According to data released by the National Weather Service, Marion, Jasper, and Warren Counties generally have a 30-40% chance of at least one inch of snow on the ground on December 25th.

The current forecast shows temperatures to reach the upper 30s and low 40s on Christmas Day in the afternoon, with little chance for precipitation.

The last time a White Christmas registered locally was in 2022; prior to that, it was in 2013.
