A public hearing has been scheduled for January 13th for comment related to proposed general fund budget reductions for the upcoming fiscal year.
For the second consecutive year, the district will make upwards of $800,000 of cuts due to ongoing flat enrollment, increasing costs related to inflation, and lower state aid increases, according to Superintendent Greg Ebeling.
In total, he recommends approximately 10 full-time teaching positions, four associate spots, and at least three part-time roles be reduced — but stresses that doesn’t necessarily mean full termination. He believes they will be able to reduce the number of involuntary job losses through retirements and transfers.
Following the January 13th meeting, a special session is scheduled on the 20th for the board to deliberate about the recommendations, and a vote will be made on January 27th. Hear more about the Pella Community School district on today’s and Friday’s Let’s Talk Pella.
