Norwalk and Indianola – Warren County’s two Little Hawkeye Conference girls basketball teams – are both in the top half of the league standings as the schedule pauses for the holiday break.

Norwalk will open the new year in first place in the LHC girls standings with a record of 3-0. Dallas Center-Grimes is also unbeaten at 2-0, followed by Indianola (2-1) and Pella (1-1).

The Warriors have more than lived up to their No. 3 ranking in Class 4A, starting the season with a 10-0 overall record. They have defeated nine of their 10 opponents by at least 22 points, with the closest game being a 10-point win over Southeast Polk on December 21. Norwalk defeated Indianola 69-30 and also won by at least 34 points against 4A 10th-ranked Pella and Pella Christian. Their next game will be Tuesday, January 7, when they host Dallas Center-Grimes.

The Indianola girls currently stand 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the LHC. The Indians beat Newton 53-42 and outlasted Oskaloosa 42-40 in overtime for their two conference victories. Indianola returns to action on Thursday, January 2 facing Southeast Polk as part of a girl-boy doubleheader at Wells Fargo Arena. They will host Carlisle on January 6 before returning to conference play at DC-G on January 10.
