The opening of the Plant 1 Lofts at the Legacy Plaza Campus in Newton has brought a new style of living to Newton according to Newton Mayor Evelyn George. Christensen Development of Des Moines has turned a three-story former Maytag plant building into 78 apartments. Mayor George says the units are very unique.
“It’s exciting because it’s a new living style. I call it an urban lifestyle option that’s now available in Jasper County.”
One and two bedroom apartments are available for six month or one year rental. Mayor George says the developer has received over 100 rental applications for the 78 units.
“The interest has really been from the north, east, and south of Newton. Not the Metro, which has really been interesting.”
The apartments feature the exposed brick walls of the plant, high ceilings, large windows, and open floor plans. The apartment building includes a community room, a dog washing station, and an outdoor patio with grills and fire pits. More information can be found online at www.plant1lofts.com
