Several commercial development projects are ongoing in the City of Pella, according to Mayor Don DeWaard.

He says most of that development focus currently has been on the west side of the community, with a mix of new construction, and the reopening of another business that closed in 2024.

DeWaard says the old Smash Park site will run under new management and is slated to open this spring. Construction is ongoing for the eventual site of a Starbucks along Washington Street and the intersection of 218th place — which may also carry over into the spring.

Additionally, site plans have been approved for a new Kwik Star at the Highway 163 interchange, which will also eventually include construction of a new traffic light.
