swimming-2

The NCMP boys swimming team and both Newton wrestling squads competed for the first time in 2025 Thursday night, with all three earning victories in their respective meets.

The NCMP boys swimming team went 2-0 on Senior Night at the Newton YMCA Thursday night, defeating Marshalltown 48-46 and Grinnell 62-32. The team picked up their two dual wins without head coach Lucas Warner, who was sidelined with an illness. Stepping in for Warner was assistant coach Clay Lamp, who said everyone swam well and eliminated some mistakes they have been battling this year.

The Newton boys and girls wrestling teams traveled to Oskaloosa Thursday and picked up the road dual wins to kick off the calendar year. The Cardinal boys were victorious 46-34, while the girls earned a 42-19 win. For the Newton boys, Kaiden Rogers scored a technical fall, while Kent Montgomery and J’Kwon Williamson got forfeits in their respective matches. Abel Aldama, Aiden Robson, Lane Rozendaal, Trevor Bennett, and Coleby Revell added victories by pins which helped propel the Cardinals past Oskaloosa. The Newton girls got wins from Julianna Maldonado-Hidalgo, Alivia Conley, Jeralys Casanova, Heather Hanson, Grace Guy, Ella Machin, and Ashlyn VanManen.

The NCMP boys swimming team returns to action on Saturday, January 11th at Waterloo West, while the Newton boys and girls wrestling teams next compete on Tuesday, January 7th. The girls will participate in a tournament at Clarke High School while the boys have a match at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
