The Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax is the site of an open to the public retirement celebration today for former Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty. His 38 year career in local law enforcement came to an end last Tuesday, December 31st. He spent 12 years as Sheriff and 27 years total with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department. Before that, he served as a Newton Police officer for 11 years.
Halferty says he’s prepared to work through the transition to retirement, but he’s not giving up serving Jasper county residents.
“I still have a love for serving the public, so I intend to continue serving on the fire and EMS side. My family is pretty involved in our local church in Colfax, so I’ll help there where I can.’
Today’s retirement celebration with the Halferty family at the Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m..
