The Newton girls wrestling team picked up three dual wins at the Clarke Girls Duals on Tuesday, while the boys wrestling squad fell 44-17 in their road dual at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. 

The Cardinals girls earned victory of 57-18 over Knoxville, 58-12 against Clarke, and 36-27 over West Central Valley, but fell to  Carlisle 61-15. Stella Cupples won all four of her matches on the night for Newton at 115 pounds. Cardinals wrestlers who went 3-1 were Julianna Maldonado-Hidalgo at 120 pounds, Alivia Conley at 125 pounds, Jeralys Casanova at 130 pounds, Johana Cerna at 135 pounds, Peyton Hoen at 145 pounds, Kamiya Lepley at 155 pounds, and Ashlyn VanManen at 190 pounds.

For the Newton boys, five wrestlers won matches in the loss against Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Pick up the victories for the Cardinals were Kent Montgomery at 106 pounds, Zander Robson at 132 pounds, Aiden Robson at 150 pounds, Lane Rozendaal at 157 pounds, and Nick Milburn at 215 pounds. 

The Newton girls wrestling team next competes on Thursday in a triangular hosted by Ames, while the Cardinal boys are off until Saturday when they wrestle at in an invitational hosted by Ottumwa.
