The Newton girls wrestling team went 0-2 at the Ames triangular Thursday night. The Cardinal girls were beaten by the host school 59-19, while Mason City downed Newton 56-19. 

The Cardinals had four match wins in both losses. Grace Guy at 170 pounds and Ashlyn VanManen at 190 pounds each won two matches. Newton’s other wins came from Kylee Adams at 105 pounds and Stella Cupples at 115 pounds against Ames; and Jeralys Casanova at 130 pounds and Kamiya Lepley at 155 pounds against Mason City.

The Cardinals girls wrestling team next competes on Saturday at an invitational in Ogden, with over twenty-five schools scheduled to participate.
