A sentence for Terry Cobbins, Jr., who was convicted of first degree murder in 2012 in Marion County, was upheld by the State of Iowa Court of Appeals on Thursday.

This was Cobbin’s third post-conviction relief (PCR) application as he is currently serving a life sentence. In 2012, Cobbins was convicted of first-degree murder for his involvement in a 2011 murder-for-hire scheme that caused the death of Theresa Miller. Cobbins’s boss, Mike Miller, hired him to kill his wife so Miller could continue his relationship with his girlfriend. Cobbins filed his third PCR application on May 24th, 2023. He alleged his attorney failed to “represent/provide specific evidence based upon his case during a seven day trial.”

Cobbins argues the district court erred in dismissing out his claims in a pre answer motion to dismiss. The appeal was reviewed and affirmed by Senior Judge Patrick Carr. Cobbin’s other two PCR applications came in 2014 and 2019. For the complete opinion on the appeal you can follow this link
