Pella earned a pair of road victories over Pella Christian as the four Tulip City basketball squads took the court last night in a night of community celebration on Eagle Lane as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Dutch girls won 54-33, while the boys held on for a 63-55 victory.

Pella’s girls led wire-to-wire, with Jenna Oltman’s first quarter buzzer-beating three-pointer opening up a 17-10 lead. It was 29-13 at the break, then Pella pulled pulled away with a 29-point lead by the end of the third quarter.

Oltman scored 10 points in that first quarter and finished the game with 15 for the Dutch, leading 10 Pella players who entered the scoring column. It’s their eighth straight win, as they’re now 10-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Pella Christian drops to 4-7 and 0-4 in the league. Rachel Kacmarynski led both teams in scoring and rebounding, as she tallied 19 points and grabbed eight boards.

In the boys game, P.C. scored the first five points, but Pella finished the first quarter with a 21-4 avalanche to open up a 12 point lead and never trailed again. It tightened to seven points and halftime and remained that way at the end of the third quarter, but the Eagles were never able to get it under a two possession game as the Dutch salted it away at the free throw line.

Brayden Traetow made nine-of-10 free throws in the second half, including seven-of-eight in the fourth quarter as the Dutch were 14-of-18 from the charity stripe as a team in the final eight minutes and 17-of-23 for the game.

Jack McGuire scored 19 points and Traetow added 11 for Pella, who improves to 6-4 on the season and 3-1 in the LHC.

Pella Christian falls to 4-5 and 1-3. They got 20 points and six rebounds from Landon Fransman and 16 points from Deacon Branderhorst.

Up next for the Eagles is a non-conference doubleheader Monday night at Knoxville, while Pella is off until a road trip to Indianola for a twinbill against the Indians on Tuesday.
