The Norwalk Community School District has released a statement about a student safety concern that was brought to their attention Monday morning.
In the statement, the district said that they received a report about a student on one of their bus routes that was in possession of a handgun. Norwalk Transportation Director Carlos Guerra located the bus in the middle of its route and escorted the student in question off the bus. School Resource Officer Lilly Dunlop was also present to provide support, and upon investigation, it was determined the student was in possession of a BB gun. In the statement, the school district said it could not share details regarding the student or discipline taken in the matter, but also said that the student will not be present in their buildings until the investigation and disciplinary procedures are complete.
Superintendent Shawn Holloway added that the safety of Norwalk students, staff, and community members is their top priority.
