jail

Jail fees for this year in Jasper County were set at this week’s County Board of Supervisors meeting. State law requires 60% of the money counties collect from inmates be used for courthouse security and law enforcement personnel costs, improvements to the jail, and juvenile detention facilities.  The fees established for this year were recommended by Jasper County Sheriff Brad Shutts.

“Trying to recoup some costs from the people who stay in our jail without putting a lot of hardship on them financially when they are released.”

Some of the fees include $60 per day for room and board, with a maximum charge of $480. Inmates being held for other counties will also be charged $60 per day, but there is no maximum limit. That fee is billed to the county responsible for the inmate. There’s also an additional one-time administrative fee. Inmates being held on City charges will be billed for a $75 intake booking fee.
