The Knoxville Police Department is reminding citizens to clean around their furnace vents and gas meters.

Local communities haven’t seen much snowfall so far this winter, but when snow does come, these devices need at least three feet of clearance to operate properly. A build up of snow or ice on the devices can cause high levels of carbon monoxide to be present in the home or excessive gas pressure leading to equipment malfunctions.
