Sometime this week, the Colfax-Mingo School Board will meet in special session to select a design team for a new $3.45 million child care center in Colfax. Today is the last day designers interested in the project can submit the required paperwork to the school district. Construction is scheduled to begin in July, and the new 11,500-square foot building is to be completed and open by June of next year. It will be built on school property across from the elementary school in Colfax.

Colfax Economic Development Corporation has been given a $1,706,721 grant to help with the construction costs. That state Child Care Business Incentive Grant is part of $14 million in funding earmarked for the expansion of child care across the state. Governor Kim Reynolds and Iowa Workforce Development announced the grant recipients earlier this month.

The new building in Colfax is projected to have 9,500-square feet for daycare and 2,000-square feet for preschool. Colfax Economic Development Corporation says it will create an additional 100 daycare spots for the Colfax area.
