The Simpson women’s basketball team dominated Loras Saturday 83-52 and saw senior guard Haley Rasmussen cross the 1,000 career point mark in the process, while the Storm men fell to Loras 100-72 in a doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

Rasmussen needed just two points coming into the ballgame to reach the milestone, and did so for the first points of the game, as Simpson would be on fire the entire first half shooting 10/15 from long range and leading the entire way, 16-9 after the first quarter and 46-23 at the halftime break. The Storm continued to shoot well in the second half, ending with 15 made three-pointers and comfortably cruised to a win. Molly Lutmer led the Storm in scoring with 22, while Maddax DeVault had 21 off the bench.

The Storm men led for the majority of the first half including jumping out to a 24-12 lead over the Duhawks with 10 minutes to go, but then a Loras press would begin to force turnovers the they would go on a run to lead 39-37 at halftime. The shorthanded Storm couldn’t keep up with the high flying Duhawks in the second half as the score got out of control, and the Storm fell as the lead ballooned. Levi Gurwell had 13 points to lead Simpson.

The Storm women are now 9-8 and 5-3 in conference, while the men are 4-13 and 1-7, with both teams next hitting the court Saturday at Dubuque.
