The Norwalk bowling teams swept Pella Christian at Air Lanes on Saturday while the Warrior boys and girls wrestlers also competed.

BOWLING

The Norwalk boys bowlers recorded a season-high score of 2,877 compared to Pella Christian’s 2,163, improving to 4-4 on the season. Warrior sophomore Brytan Bassman topped the individual ledger with a two-game series of 469, rolling games of 236 and 233. Gavin Housley, Blake Halsted and Tanner Housley also bowled consistent scores, adding series totals of 415, 399 and 391, respectively.

The Norwalk girls improved to 6-2 overall, defeating the Eagles 2,129 to 1,364. Julia Palen led the Warriors with a 326 series, followed by Elivia Stout with a 322 and Ellery Racz with a 291. Palen’s 187 was the top individual game. Both Norwalk teams return to action on Friday, facing Ballard at Perfect Games in Ames.

WRESTLING

The Norwalk boys wrestlers placed second out of seven teams in the Bob Sharp Invitational at Ankeny. The host Hawks won a tight race for the team title with 211.5 points, followed by Norwalk (208), Linn-Mar (207) and Indianola (202.5). The Warriors claimed two champions on the day. Victor Esparza won the 190-pound class with a pair of decisions. Kolton Borcherding-Johnson was the 285-pound champion, scoring one pin and a major decision. Gabriel Colunga, Asaiah Martinez, Blake Stanford, Tyler Stanford and Harrison Tripp each placed second. Norwalk returns to action on Thursday, hosting Indianola for a dual at 5:30.

The Norwalk girls wrestlers finished 17th out of 22 teams at the Waukee Northwest Invite, totaling 28 points. Brookelynn Lonnevik placed third for the Warriors at 105 pounds and Katie Liedtke placed fourth at 170 with a pair of pins. Norwalk’s next competition is next Saturday at Colfax-Mingo.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

In a battle of Class 4A ranked opponents, the sixth-ranked Norwalk girls basketball team hosts No. 11 Carlisle tonight at 7:00 p.m. The 12-1 Warriors and 11-2 Wildcats played a combined three overtime periods in two meetings last season. Norwalk won the regular-season matchup in double OT and later won a regional semifinal 57-54 in one overtime. Tonight’s game will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA and kniakrls.com (KNIA3), starting with pregame coverage at 6:45.
