PCM grad Drew Clevenger who is the current head football coach at St. Ansgar High School has been selected to the 2025 Iowa Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame and is featured on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page.
Clevenger is a native of Monroe and graduated from PCM in 1993. Clevenger was high school teammates with Greg Bonnett who is the current head coach of PCM. Clevenger took over as head coach of the St. Ansgar Saints in North Central Iowa in 2000 and served as an assistant for two years before that. Clevenger is knocking on the door of the 200 win club as he currently holds a record of 194-71. The Saints won a state title under Clevenger in 2011 and he has taken them to seven state semifinals including this past season. Clevenger tells KNIA/KRLS radio that he is proud of his Monroe roots and PCM isn’t far from his mind on Friday nights in the fall.
“I’m really proud to be from that area. I’m proud to be a Mustang. One of the first things I do when I get in from a game on Friday night back in the coaches office there is always a couple of scores I check and PCM is one of them along with Dowling Catholic with Monroe native Tom Wilson coaching there. I had the good fortune of having outstanding teachers and coaches at PCM. The football coach when I was there was Brian Hazelton and he certainly made a big impact on my life. He always seemed like he had a lot of fun doing his job so it kind of got me interested and put me on the path that I ended up on as well.”
St. Ansgar High School and West Hancock High School are consistently two of the most successful Class A Iowa high school football programs every year. The two schools are located an hour away from each other and they play annually as of recent years. Along with Clevenger, the 2025 IFCA Hall of Fame class includes Cory Brant (Rock Valley), Roger Jansen (Bishop Heelan), Curt Ritchie (Williamsburg), and Marshall Scichilone (St. Albert, Woodbine). Hear from Clevenger on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page which airs during the 8:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm news magazines and is posted online at kniakrls.com.
