Despite a short week due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday, the Iowa Legislature held multiple discussions in committees to submit bills last week. State Representative Brooke Boden tells KNIA News the legislature will have to discuss the proposal from Governor Kim Reynolds to use $700 million in state reserve funds to cover the projected budget shortfall, and Boden says the shortfall was expected due to tax cuts that she believes will have revenue rise after the reduction.

“We have those savings, we have those funds, and this was an anticipated reduction. So I think we will be fine, I think most or all the legislators will see it the same way. But I’m not everybody, so we’ll see.”
