Simpson College will celebrate one of their most famous alumni beginning tomorrow, the annual George Washington Carver Day Celebration. Carver was a noted American agricultural chemist, agronomist, and experimenter whose development of new products derived from peanuts, sweet potatoes, and soybeans helped revolutionize the agricultural economy of the South.

The three-day celebration begins tomorrow with an open forum with the Hon. Mike Espy, former Member of Congress from Mississippi and first African American U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and Member of Congress from 1-2pm in Hubbell Hall, then beginning at 7pm a presentation of the George Washington Carver Medal to Espy and a presentation on the life of Carver will begin in the Smith Chapel.

Friday will migrate from the Simpson College campus to the downtown Indianola square, where Peanut Beer will be for sale at West Hill Brewery from 4-5pm, and Saturday will have a free scavenger hunt for kids and families with over a dozen participating downtown businesses from 9am to noon.
