American Legion Post 89 in Pella awarded the winners of their annual Flag Essay Contest on Wednesday. The veterans group stopped by Jefferson Intermediate School and Pella Christian Grade School to announce the top three in the program that has students write a short essay about the U.S. Flag. This year’s winners were announced by Senator Joni Ernst via video, and include:

Emily Jahraus, 1st – Jefferson
Kelsey Gallaher, 2nd – PCGS
Olivia Woodcock, 3rd – Jefferson

The three will read their essays at the upcoming American Legion meeting at the end of March. They are also featured on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
