The Newton City Council spent over $140,000 this week on items that will go inside the new clubhouse that’s nearing completion at Westwood Golf Course. Council members unanimously approved the purchase of two golf simulators for $126,510, but that cost is being covered by privately donated money. The City will have to pay the annual maintenance/software fee associated with the operation of the simulators. Newton Mayor Evelyn George notes this will be an attraction that will bring golfers to the clubhouse year round, and increase revenue.
“I know this is a feature many people have been interested in. We certainly could not fit it into our previous clubhouse. So I am glad we were able to plan for that.”
The Newton City Council also approved the purchase of commercial restaurant and bar furniture for the clubhouse from Oak Street Manufacturing in Monticello for $10,283. Another $4,750 expenditure was approved for other clubhouse furniture from Store for Homes in Newton, and those items include Club Chairs, Accent Tables, and Love Seats.
