Free information on how businesses can prepare for unexpected emergencies or disasters will be shared at a Business Continuity Workshop at the Newton DMACC Campus on Monday. Safeguard Iowa will provide the information. Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Director Jamey Robinson says his agency is hosting the workshop, along with Jasper County Economic Development and Newton Development Corporation.

“A lot of businesses following a disaster or an emergency don’t typically reopen or keep things going if they weren’t prepared or have things in place. So Safeguard Iowa, a private public partnership of entities across the state of Iowa, is coming down to Newton to put on a presentation for anyone who wants to learn how to better prepare their business for the disasters of tomorrow.”

Safeguard Iowa says 75% to 80% of businesses don’t have a disaster plan, but one out of three businesses are impacted by a disaster. Once a disaster or emergency occurs, Safeguard Iowa claims 40% of businesses fail to reopen, and another 25% fail within the first year. Registration for the free February 10th workshop at the Newton DMACC Campus is through the Jasper County Emergency Management Agency App or Facebook page.
