With just two games remaining ahead of regional play, the Pella Christian girls basketball team is looking to end the regular season strong.
Before hosting Colfax-Mingo in the first round of Class 2A Region 5 postseason action, the Eagles will first host Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday and Indianola on Friday. Pella Christian head coach Brendan Foughty says that they are going into the matchup with the Class 4A #6 Mustangs with the mentality that they can pull off the upset, while also using it as a chance to enhance their game before the postseason begins on Saturday.
“That’s our mindset, we want to go compete as hard as we can and go give them our best shot. Obviously, we get to play on our home court, so we’re excited about that. It’s a great opportunity for us to continue to clean up some things, especially in defensive transition. They’ve got good players all over the place so we’ve got to be able to stop the ball in transition, get in the paint, but then also point, talk, and match up and identify shooters and make sure they don’t get any easy threes in transition. DCG is really good at that, so it’s going to stress us but that’s a great opportunity for us to continue to prepare, because when we get down in the 2A stretch there’s going to be teams that have shooters on the floor and we’ve got to make sure we’re ready to take them away from what they do best.”
The Eagles girls basketball game against Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday will open the Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader with the boys teams at 6 pm, and both games can be heard live on the KRLS2 stream and viewed on the Pella Christian YouTube channel at 5:45 pm.
