Siera Becker of Indianola was crowned a state champion at 100 pounds in Class 2A at the Iowa High School Girls State Wrestling Tournament at Xtreme Arena in Coralville Friday.

Three other area athletes earned spots on the podium including Nora Ohnemus of Indianola placing fourth at 105 pounds in Class 2A, Jazelle Smith of Indianola placing fifth at 170 pounds in Class 2A, and Serenity Turner of Knoxville placing third at 105 pounds in Class 1A. Becker tells KNIA/KRLS that she is proud to be a state champion and she wanted to win it for her grandma.

“This feels like the greatest accomplishment ever. Knowing that I did this, and my goal this year was to win for my grandma and I told her I would one day and I did it for her today in honor of her and I am just so proud of myself.”

Turner says she felt proud to represent Knoxville on the biggest stage.

“I’m very proud. Just knowing how many people from Knoxville support me I’m just very proud being from Knoxville.”
