The curve on Jasper County Highway F-48 West southwest of Colfax is going to be replaced as part of the resurfacing of the highway from Colfax to the Polk County line. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says the curve at West 124th Street South and South 44th Avenue West will be expanded, requiring the purchase of additional right of way.
“We will be looking at 6.3 acres of right of way easement because we need a 120’ corridor through there with the way this road is designed. And we will basically vacate about 9.2 acres.I haven’t calculated it yet, but it is going to be costly.”
The West 124th Street South intersection will be in the middle of the curve. A revised $209,000 design services agreement for the curve replacement and entire phase three resurfacing has been approved by the Jasper County Supervisors.
