In their first home action of 2025, the Central College men’s tennis team split their squad in half and played two matches on Saturday. The first squad defeated Northwestern College 4-3, while the second team fell to Coe College 7-0 in non-conference play.
Against Northwestern, the Dutch (1-3) secured the doubles point with Ayden Fletcher and AJ Wilkins winning 6-3 at #1 doubles and Jack Briggs and Benny Ramker winning 6-1 at #3 doubles. Fletcher added a 6-4, 6-3 win at #1 singles. Two Dutch players came back after losing the first set to win in third-set tiebreaks, as Wilkins won 4-6, 6-1, 12-10 at #2 singles, and Briggs came away with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 win at #3 singles. Despite not winning a match against Coe, Gavin Jablonski made it to a tiebreak in the first set before losing 7-5.
The Dutch return to the court next Saturday to host exhibition matches against Maharishi University, before hosting regular matches against Quincy University and Concordia University (Neb.) at H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse on February 22nd.
