Scoring 65 points between just the second and third quarters, the Simpson College women’s basketball team blew past Nebraska Wesleyan for a dominant 100-65 American Rivers Conference victory.
The Storm (13-10, 9-5 A-R-C) delivered a season-best performance from beyond the arc, sinking 16 3-pointers, including seven in the second quarter alone. Haley Rasmussen led the long-range assault with four treys, while Molly Lutmer and Morgan Pietig combined for six more. Ava Levings added to the barrage in the third quarter, hitting two from deep, the first of which extended Simpson’s lead to a game-high 47 points.
Molly Lutmer led the team with 22 points, and the Storm head to Loras for their final road game of the regular season on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Simpson men’s team’s second half rally fell short on Thursday night in an 82-54 loss to the Prairie Wolves. The Storm (5-18, 2-12 A-R-C) were unable to stop Nebraska Wesleyan in the first half, as the Prairie Wolves shot over 60 percent from the field. Simpson used an 18-6 run around halftime to cut the lead in half but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback attempt. Levi Gurwell continued his hot streak offensively, leading the Storm with 17 points, his fifth straight game with double-digits scoring. The Simpson men are also on the road for the final time this season on Saturday at Loras.
