The Grand Theater in Knoxville continues to see progress in their clean-up efforts after the theater suffered extensive water damage in July.
Many volunteers worked diligently to get it back up and running to open back up in November after severe weather caused a lengthy closure. During the last week of July, a construction company started working on roof repairs at the theater, and on one of the days, Knoxville experienced severe weather and heavy rainfall. The tarp that was placed over the hole on the roof blew off and it rained heavily inside the building for several hours.
The theater’s staff and volunteers have repainted the floor, cleaned all the seats, changed out over 500 ceiling tiles, dried out the whole building, and completed many other projects as part of the clean up efforts. There are still some cosmetic details under consideration for repairs, but those will be taken care of over time. Grand Theater Foundation President Curt Schwanebeck tells KNIA/KRLS that they are always looking for help.
“It would be nice to have a group of volunteers that would just like to come in and work the concession stand during the opening, a short shift is what we call it. If you have some spare time, the best way to do that is go to director@knoxvillegrandtheater.org.”
The Grand Theater has showings every night of the week and matinees on the weekends. Patrons can also support the theater by purchasing curbside popcorn on the weekends.
