After a trend of declining enrollment in Newton Schools, numbers in the district remained steady for the second consecutive month. December and January’s enrollment were exactly the same at 2,614 students according to Newton Superintendent Tom Messinger.
“We had seen several months of decline in numbers from month to month”
December and January’s enrollment is 28 students less than the district’s highest reported enrollment this school year, which was 2,642 students at the end of August. That enrollment number fell to 2,630 at the end of September, 2,621 at the end of October, and 2,612 as of November 30th. In December, Newton schools gained two students and maintained that enrollment last month.
