Another major component of the new clubhouse being built at Westwood Golf Course in Newton is on the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting. Council members are being asked to approve spending up to $75,000 to construct the clubhouse’s bar. Due to financial constraints, the bar area was not included in the construction contract for the facility, but a private fundraising group has raised the $75,000 for that portion of the project. Interior work on the Westwood Golf Course Clubhouse continues, with project completion expected before the start of the golf season. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says that the city council is also looking to add amenities outside the clubhouse as well.

“One of the goals the Council adopted at the recent goal setting session will be to do some exterior work in terms of patio work and things that are outside the building itself.”

Also on tonight’s Newton City Council agenda is a report from Public Works Director Joe Grife on the city’s hauling contract for solid waste and recycling, and the Newton Historic Preservation Commission’s Annual Report for 2024. The Newton City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at city hall.
