Following up a historic year and senior class for the program has had some growing pains in 2024-25, but those seemingly paid off for a Pella boys wrestling team that had five wrestlers qualify for the 2025 state wrestling meet in Carlisle Saturday.

The Dutch navigated a field that included juggernaut Southeast Polk and multiple ranked wrestlers to place 4th with a team score of 99, and have five athletes place in the top three of their weight class to earn bids to the top 24 of Class 3A this week.

Pella’s Logan Bruxvoort became a three-time state qualifier by placing 3rd in the 175-pound weight division that featured three ranked wrestlers heading into the tournament.

Two years after older brother Peyton battled back to earn a spot to the state meet, Ritzert brothers Hudson at 120 and Brecken at 190 joined that Eagles family tradition by also placing third in their respective weight classes, with each doing so by pinfall in their final matches of the day.

Hunter Smith joined his sister Isabella in earning a state wrestling meet bid in 2025, also winning by pinfall in his final competition of the day to join the top 24 of Class 3A at 160 pounds.

Brayden Sundby pulled off the most dramatic qualifying bid for the Dutch on Saturday at 126 pounds, winning his 3rd place contest in sudden victory over Sullivan Baccam of Carlisle.
