Several Newton City Council members say they heard good things about snow removal operations after last Wednesday’s winter storm. The positive public feedback came at the end of Monday night’s city council meeting. At-Large Councilman Randy Ervin noted he had received several positive calls.
“I know that 7 or 8 inches of snow was a challenge for everybody. But it was nice to hear from people in the community that said we did a nice job. That’s hats off to our street crew, that’s hats off to our city public people. It’s nice when people call in and say “good job”.”
Second Ward Councilwoman Melissa Dalton said she also heard good things from the public while Third Ward Councilman Stacy Simbro offered his own positive feedback. Public Works Operations staff continued sanding and cleaning streets as needed last Thursday, and began hauling snow from downtown at 11:00 p.m. Thursday, with most of the hauling being completed overnight Thursday into Friday. During hauling operations, three vehicles were ticketed for parking downtown, and five properties were abated for not clearing sidewalks. Meanwhile, the Newton Police Department says officers wrote 68 snow ordinance parking tickets during last Wednesday’s storm.
