The Indianola City Council met in a budget work session Tuesday, reviewing the budget decisions for the council as the progress towards FY26. The city is currently working through the growth limit set forth by the Iowa Legislature in House File 718, which capped the City of Indianola’s ability to collect revenue from property taxes at 2.51% growth from FY25.

A presentation was given by Indianola City Clerk Jackie Raffety, detailing where cuts have been made by each department including emergency services equipment and not filling open positions, in addition to limiting out of state travel and training opportunities.

The council gave direction to city staff to look at not contributing to organizations such as the Des Moines Metro Opera with other funds, but keeping a 3% cost of living increase to staff salaries.
