A Newton woman has claimed a $50,000 Prize from a $5 Iowa Lottery scratch game. 43-year-old Coletta Whennen purchased her winning “$50,000 Super Crossword” scratch ticket from the Casey’s store at 1018 First Avenue East in Newton. She claimed her winnings at the lottery’s headquarters in Clive Monday. 

Whennen told lottery officials she plans to use the money for a quick weekend getaway, and to make payments on her house. She said before she could believe her $50,000 lottery win, she had to have son verify what she saw. Then she started shaking and dropped to her knees and screamed.  

The Newton woman is the 68th top prize winner in the $50,000 Super Crossword scratch game.
