The Knoxville Police Department is reminding citizens to complete a nightly 9:00 pm routine.

This includes removing valuables from vehicles, locking vehicle doors, closing the garage door, closing and locking all exterior doors, and turning on exterior lights. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller says doing these basic tasks each night can better protect against theft. Fuller adds that criminal activity tends to rise once the weather gets nicer.

“In relation to making sure your vehicle is not stolen overnight, that your vehicle is not burglarized overnight. It is warming up so more people will be out and about and this is when we see stuff like that happen.”
