Competing in the American Rivers Conference Tournament Semifinals Thursday night, the fourth-seeded Central College women’s basketball team fell on the road to second-seeded Coe College 73-65.
The Kohawks got off to a hot start, leading 23-18 after the first quarter by shooting 9-of-15 from the field and 4-of-7 from three. The Dutch won the second quarter and trailed 37-33 at halftime. Coe’s offense caught fire again in the third quarter, as they shot 55% from the field and 3-of-4 from three. The Dutch didn’t go away easily, going on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to four, but Coe held on for the win. Central was led in scoring by senior Hannah Dau with 11 points, while fellow senior Abby Johnson also reached double figures with 10 points. The Dutch had 22 bench points in the loss, led by Bailey Reding with 10. Also off the bench, Samantha Scott scored seven points and led the team with four assists. For the game, the Kohawks shot 48.1% from the field and 50% from three-point range, while Central shot 40.7% from the field and 40% from three.
The Dutch women finish the season with a 15-12 overall record and a 7-9 conference mark, and will graduate four seniors in Dau, Johnson, Scott, and Gabby Moore.
