Two-tenths of a mile of Jasper County Highway T-22 south of Kellogg and Interstate 80 is going to be closed to traffic soon, so it can be replaced. The Jasper County Engineer’s Office says the tentative start date for the project is the week of March 17th, weather permitting. The work is expected to be completed by mid-April, and will be done by TK Concrete Incorporated in Pella. The company submitted a low bid of $70,165, which Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says is about 20 percent lower than the engineer’s estimate of just under $85,000. Frietsch notes 177 feet of pavement is going to be replaced just north of South 44th Avenue East.

“We have a box culvert that was put in 10 to 15 years ago. The ground above that box culvert has settled and the pavement is broken, creating a low spot or dip in the pavement.”

The detour will go around the east side of the project using South 28th Avenue East, East 108th Street South, and South 44th Avenue East.
