The Indianola Fire Department held a controlled burn on Sunday, part of a joint training exercise with the Northern Warren Fire Department, Milo Volunteer Fire and EMS, and the Hartford Volunteer Fire and EMS. Training covered hose and nozzle control, interior fire attacks, fire behavior, overhaul, and tactical ventilation.
Indianola Fire Chief Aaron Hurt tells KNIA News he will follow the standards set by the department over the last several years to continue to make training a priority and make sure fire department staff are all well versed in all of the latest techniques and safety standards.
The training took place at an abandoned property located at 2103 E 2nd Avenue in Indianola.
While conditions were favorable for conducting interior training, unfavorable wind conditions made it not conducive to perform exterior training. The Indianola Fire Department, along with the participating departments, ensured all required safety measures, personnel and equipment were in place to maintain a controlled and secure environment during the exercise.
