Voters in three Jasper County townships who cast ballots in Tuesday’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy Election in the Grinnell-Newburg School District supported extending the levy, but not by as high of a percentage as in Poweshiek County. Unofficial results from the Jasper County Auditors Office, show 69% support for extending the 67-cent levy for another ten years. The Auditors Office said approximately 900 registered voters in Hickory Grove, Lynn Grove, and Richland townships were eligible to vote, and 259 ballots were cast. 179 were in support of the extension and 80 were against it.
In Poweshiek County, unofficial results show the ballot question passed with 77.5% support. 1,818 voters said “Yes” to the levy extension and 527 voted “No”. Voter turnout in Poweshiek County was just over 30%. The 67-cent Grinnell-Newburg Physical Plant and Equipment Levy generates revenue for a variety of school expenses. Once Tuesday’s election results are canvassed and approved, the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy extension will begin with the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
