A new report out by researchers at the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation lists Marion County at number 29 in the state of 99 counties in overall health. The study looked at a variety of factors. The study looks at every county in the country and concludes that unhealthier counties tend to have fewer grocery stores and farmers markets, have lower high school graduation rates and much higher rates of unemployment. Delaware County in northeast Iowa is ranked number one, and Appanoose county southern Iowa came in at 99th.
