Marion County recently had their first ever team participate in the Youth Hunter Education Challenge. The team of six kids, ages 12-13, placed fourth. Their coach, Andy Shives, says that he appreciates how programs such as this help children learn about nature and enjoy it in the process. Shives adds that the best part of the weekend was watching the kids get excited about their successes and learn what they can improve on. The challenge took place at Lake Ahquabi (ah-QUAW-bee), southwest of Indianola. The Marion County team was sponsored by Marion County Pheasants Forever, Marion County Sportsmen’s Club, and the Marion County Double Gobb chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
