Two people suffered minor injuries in an accident Monday evening involving a semi and one car. The accident occurred just after 6 pm Monday at the intersection of Highways T-17 and 92.

Marion County Deputies, Clay Township Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. The investigation showed Randy Lee Browne, of Pella, was traveling eastbound on Highway 92 in a 2000 Freightliner semi and slowed to turn north onto Highway T-17. Another semi and two passenger vehicles were behind him, also heading eastbound on Highway. 92.

Just prior to Mr. Browne turning north, the third vehicle back, operated by Michael Lee Battin, of Des Moines, attempted to overtake the vehicles in front of him. Battin’s 1990 Honda Accord, while attempting to overtake the other vehicles, ran into the trailer of Browne’s semi as it turned north, and was dragged approximately sixty feet.

Battin was uninjured, however his two passengers, Adam Lee Jensen and Barbara Jean Battin, both of Des Moines, were transported to the Pella Regional Health Center for non life threatening injuries. Both subjects were treated and released. Mr. Battin was charged with passing contrary to highway signs and markings, careless driving, and failure to have insurance involving a motor vehicle accident.
