Losing to the same team three times this season was apparently enough to push Knoxville past Oskaloosa last night in the first round of the Class 3A baseball district. The Panthers scored three runs in the first inning and Eric Jones got stronger as the game wore on in hot humid weather to post a 7-3 win over the Indians. Osky had beat the Panthers three times during the regular season but this time the Indians never got on track offensively as Jones was outstanding in the latter innings. Coach Steve Mott was concerned after a slower than usual start for the Jones, but a few one/two/three innings later, that concern was short lived. The Panthers got three runs in the first and one in the fourth and sixth innings and two in the seventh highlighted by a Kellen Glover two-run R-B-I. Glover went 3/4 with three R-B-I, while Lance Daugherty was also 3/4 with an R-B-I. Jones went the distance allowing three runs on six hits…two walks…and four strikeouts. Knoxville is now 14-17 on the season and will play Centerville who knocked off Fairfield in the nightcap on Monday night for the District title.
