The Pleasantville football team almost seemed as if they were going to come away with the win Friday night, after taking the lead over Central Decatur for the first time this season and holding that lead until the middle of the 2nd quarter in what would end up as a 38-16 defeat. The first Trojan drive was a 44-yard touchdown by D.J. Weaver and a two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
The entire 1st half the Trojans seemed to click, but then the 2nd half belonged to Central Decatur. After three touchdowns by the Cardinals’ quarterback – and leading rusher – Austin Wells; and another touchdown by the running back Tyler Williams. That made the score 38-8.
The Trojans had a few players back in the line-up from injuries or illness, but ended up with some new faces on the sideline at the end of the night with injuries. Tight end Hunter Van Haalen left with a possible concussion, and quarterback Jake Burgett is nursing an ankle injury.
The Trojans were able to score with under 1 minute left to play in the 4th quarter to make it 38-16. Overall Coach Tim Koerselmen thought that team played very well and was proud of them once again, but felt disappointed losing key players in the game.
You can catch the delayed broadcast of the game at 1:00 p.m. Sunday on AM 1320 KNIA. Next week Pleasantville stays home to go up against Des Moines Christian.
